Overview
Do you want to become a professional engineer and move your career up a level? This top up degree is made for students who have already finished an HND or foundation degree in engineering and want to graduate with a full honours degree.
Your skills in design, control, sustainability and advanced manufacturing will grow, and you will gain the critical thinking and analytical knowledge needed for high level engineering roles or postgraduate study.
It suits learners who are already working in the industry, or who want to progress into technical, design or project engineering roles, and it also supports future progression towards Professional Registration.
What You’ll Learn
The course covers 120 credits at Level 6, and it builds on your existing skills with a strong focus on applied engineering and innovation.
The modules include the Professional Engineering Project (studied over the two year programme), Control Engineering, Sustainable Design, Design for Manufacture, and Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics.
These modules are designed to give you a broad and future facing skillset in areas including automation, design software and advanced simulation techniques.
Assessment
Your assessment includes written assignments, presentations, exams, and practical and project based work.
The Professional Engineering Project, which you study across both years, forms the core of your final assessment.
Progression
The degree supports career progression, so you can move into senior technical, design or management roles in engineering sectors.
It also supports postgraduate study, where you can progress to MSc programmes at University of Lancashire or other institutions.
On professional recognition, the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), on behalf of the Engineering Council, accredits the BEng for the purposes of partly meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.
