Overview
If you have already completed your HND or foundation degree in engineering and want to achieve a full honours degree, this top up is an ideal fit for aspiring engineers who want to specialise in power engineering. In areas such as electrical machines, energy systems and power electronics, you will gain deeper knowledge, while strengthening your problem solving, project management and critical thinking skills.
The course is built for adult learners who are balancing study with other commitments, and its part time schedule supports working professionals and career changers.
What You’ll Learn
Your 120 credits at Level 6 combine a core engineering project with specialist modules, which develop advanced knowledge in power systems and electrical technologies.
The modules include the Professional Engineering Project (studied across both years), Circuits, Networks and Electromagnetic Waves, Control Engineering, Fundamentals of Electrical Machines, Generation, Transmission and Distribution Plant, and Power Electronics.
The modules are subject to review, and they may change in line with industry developments.
Assessment
Your assessment includes written assignments, presentations, exams, and practical and project based work.
The Professional Engineering Project, which you study across both years, forms the core of your final assessment.
Progression
The degree supports your career progression, letting you move into senior technical, design or management roles in engineering sectors.
It also supports postgraduate study, where you can progress to MSc programmes at University of Lancashire or other institutions.
On professional recognition, the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), on behalf of the Engineering Council, accredits the BEng for the purposes of partly meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.
