Overview
Are you ready to lift your construction career to the next level, with design, planning and the delivery of construction projects as your focus?
If you have completed a relevant Level 4 qualification (like an HNC) and want to progress into technical and managerial roles on the design and build side of the construction industry, this course is for you. It suits you particularly if you are aiming to work on complex projects, where you can contribute to both the creative and operational aspects of construction delivery.
How construction projects are planned, designed and managed, from early concepts through to final build, is something you will come to understand deeply. The course gives you the tools, confidence and insight to lead, whether you are already in the industry or getting ready to take on more responsibility.
The course prepares you for a career that combines creative thinking with practical project delivery, with a strong focus on real world application, sustainability and modern methods of construction.
We are aware that life, work and study all compete for your time, which is why the course is delivered flexibly, to fit around your commitments. September and January start dates are both available.
Your next step is here if you want to build, lead and make a lasting impact.
At Wigan & Leigh College, the North-West Construction & Technology Excellence College (CTEC) provides high quality training for careers in construction. It was created in response to the need for around 40,000 new workers to fill construction jobs across the UK.
Construction is a modern industry that offers a wide range of opportunities. Technology, creativity and practical skills all come together in it, including digital design, 3D modelling and more sustainable methods of building.
CTEC courses are developed together with employers, so you gain the skills companies are actively looking for. You will build real experience and develop the knowledge employers value, which helps you stand out when you apply for apprenticeships or jobs.
What You’ll Learn
The course builds on your foundational knowledge and focuses on advanced concepts in construction management.
Its modules are designed to equip you with the competencies required for effective decision making and leadership in the construction sector.
Practical projects that mirror real world challenges are part of what you will be involved in, and they enhance your readiness for the workplace.
Assessment
The assessment is practical and focused on work: you will complete written assignments, coursework based on real life scenarios and project work.
Every assessment is set and marked internally, and each reflects tasks and situations you would experience in industry. Helping you build real world skills that employers value is the focus.
Progression
From this course, several exciting next steps become available. Employment is one, since the course is ideal preparation for supervisory or technician roles in construction.
Higher or Degree Apprenticeships are another, with this qualification serving as a stepping stone to further structured training. The course can also be delivered as part of a higher or degree apprenticeship.
A top up degree is a third option: after your HND, you can progress to a full honours degree at university.
Mapped to occupational standards, the qualification also supports recognition by professional bodies, helping you move forward with confidence and credibility.
