Overview
Do you picture yourself leading construction teams, managing activity on site and making sure projects are delivered safely, on time and to spec?
The course is for people who have already completed a relevant Level 4 qualification (like an HNC) and are ready to move into supervisory or site management roles. It has been designed for those who want to be hands on, coordinating trades, overseeing daily operations and making sure that quality and safety standards are met.
You will build the skills to manage resources, lead teams, monitor compliance and handle the fast paced demands of a live construction site. From health and safety through to project control, the course gives you the technical knowledge and leadership abilities that employers are looking for.
Whether you already work in the sector or want to move up into a site supervisor or assistant site manager role, this qualification gives you the confidence, credibility and practical skills to get there.
We know that you are balancing life, work and study, so the course is delivered flexibly to fit around your commitments. There are both September and January start dates.
Do you want to run a better site, lead a stronger team and build a successful career? This course is for you.
The North-West Construction & Technology Excellence College (CTEC) at Wigan & Leigh College provides high quality training for careers in construction. It was created in response to the need for around 40,000 new workers to fill construction jobs across the UK.
Construction is a modern industry with a wide range of opportunities, bringing together technology, creativity and practical skills, including digital design, 3D modelling and more sustainable methods of building.
CTEC courses are developed with employers, so you gain the skills companies are actively looking for. Real experience and knowledge that employers value are what you will build, helping you stand out when you apply for apprenticeships or jobs.
What You’ll Learn
The HND builds on your Level 4 knowledge, and it concentrates on the real world skills and responsibilities needed to manage construction sites safely, efficiently and professionally.
You will be involved in looking at how to lead teams, manage health and safety, ensure compliance and keep projects moving forward on time and on budget.
Across the course, you will build your leadership, organisation and communication skills, the ones that make a great supervisor. Your understanding of the regulations, tools and processes that keep sites running smoothly and safely will also grow.
This qualification prepares you to step confidently into site supervision roles and progress within the industry.
Assessment
The assessment is practical and work focused, and you will complete written assignments, coursework based on real life scenarios and project work.
All assessments are set and marked internally, reflecting tasks and situations you would experience in industry. The focus is on helping you build real world skills that employers value.
Progression
Several exciting next steps open up from this course. The first is employment, as the course is ideal preparation for supervisory or technician roles in construction.
The second is Higher or Degree Apprenticeships, where you can use this qualification as a stepping stone to further structured training. The course can also be delivered as part of a higher or degree apprenticeship.
The third is a top up degree. After your HND, you can progress to a full honours degree at university.
The qualification is also mapped to occupational standards and supports recognition by professional bodies, which helps you move forward with confidence and credibility.
