Background
Goal
The course is classed as full time but runs over three days a week, giving students the flexibility to fit in work and a social life. Groups are small, so teaching is focused and students get more one-to-one time with their tutors.
The Level 4 units give a specialised introduction to coaching in the UK and the different coaching functions. Students combine practical skills with research, independent study and workplace scenarios, and develop transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis that are highly valued in higher education and the workplace.
Journey
Aaron works on Saturdays as a sports coach in Sale. The skills from his Level 3 helped him move into a better-paid role where he manages his own coaching staff. He says the HNC has given him more knowledge about what he can deliver both on and off the pitch.
Outcome
The qualification has given Aaron a clearer idea of what he wants to do in the future, and at the time of filming he was preparing to head to Camp America as a camp counsellor.
By the end of the HNC, students have a sound knowledge of coaching in the UK and are ready to progress to Level 5 or into employment in roles that carry personal responsibility, with careers open across sport, coaching and physical education.
