Background
Goal
The HNC is a Level 4 qualification that develops the technical knowledge needed for a role in cyber security. Learning is hands-on and designed to feel like real work, so students practise the kinds of tasks they will meet in the industry.
The course is made up of eight modules over one year, using case studies, group work, practical work and projects. Students learn in state-of-the-art rooms with industry-standard hardware and software, taught by staff with a wide range of industry experience, and Tameside College has links with employers through Tameside Means Business.
Journey
For Paddy, the best parts of the course are the practical experience and how job-like it feels. That means he is building skills he can take straight into the workplace, rather than only learning the theory.
Outcome
Once he completes his qualification, Paddy plans to find a job in the cyber security field. Students who finish the HNC can also progress onto the HND (HTQ) in Cyber Security to take their studies further.
