Background
Goal
Keira is studying an HNC in Computing at Tameside College, on a track that leads into cyber security. As a GMIoT course, it gives students access to the college's state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, along with course material designed around what the industry needs.
The HNC is made up of eight modules studied over one year, taught by staff who bring a wide range of industry experience. Students work with industry-standard hardware and software, and the college also has a games design and development studio with VR technology. The cyber security route brings theory and practical skills together, preparing students to tackle real-world challenges and defend against constantly evolving threats.
Journey
Keira describes the facilities, equipment and course material as brilliant. Studying while working means she can put what she learns into practice in her day-to-day role, and she would definitely recommend the course to anyone with an interest in computing or cyber security.
Outcome
Over the next five years, Keira hopes to stay in the industry and keep building her knowledge. She sees the HNC as the perfect stepping stone to get there, with routes on to an HND or degree if she wants to go further.
